9/8 update

Braves,

Friday was yet another strong day for our team. Our boys finished 3rd in 5A (9th overall) and our girls were 6th in 5A (12th overall). There were some great performances and huge improvements. Our JV teams ran especially well on the day. On the girls side, Addie, on her birthday, went out strong and ran very well. Hannah followed up her breakthrough race from last week with another strong race, really pouring it on over the last mile. Lily seemingly got stronger as the race went along, and Rylee and Olivia both had what looked to me to be their best race of the year. There were a number of boys who also had what I believe was their best race of the year. Bennet and Cy, two freshman, ran so strong on the back half that they looked impervious to fatigue and finished with great times. Sam passed 6 people over the final 800 and Crispin ran his best race, by far, of the year. Each of these kids, and more, like many of you, have put in a great deal of work. I hope that on race day you are excited to showcase your improvements and see what you can do. Our JV teams on the day did outstanding. Looking forward to what they do next.

Team dinner will be hosted by the Schmitts on Tuesday at 5:30. It will be at a church park and I’ve heard rumor of a slip n slide – you can get there by going on 400 N and turning north on 650 E. You can also use this link for directions from the school: Directions

The race this week will be at Layton City Park on WEDNESDAY. We will be competing against the teams from the school district – half of whom are in our region, the other half are 6A schools, so we will see some quality opponents. I will send an email out in the coming days with the time schedule, but it typically begins at 3:30 with the JV girls followed by the boys. In the past the course has been 2.75 miles, and there is a parent/supporters/family fun run before the awards if any of you are interested in racing (it is a free race, just a fun run).

We are officially in the heart of our season, with a large part of our meets in the past. We will not be attending the Roy invitational on 9/21, so you may remove that from your calendars if you were planning for that. At that point in the season we figure we could use the break from intense racing. That day is also homecoming, if I’m not mistaken, and in the past there are some kids who elect to do their day activities the day before (so why not call them day-before activities, then?). Plan with your groups and your dates so that you do not need to miss practice on Friday 9/20. We will be prompt that day, but we need to get the work in.

Looking forward to a great week.

Coach Jacobson
