7/26-7/30 updates

Redhawks,

In case you haven't noticed, July is winding down. This summer has is flying by - rather than looking back and wishing you had used your time more effectively, start now and use what we have left to get better. For context of how quickly the season is moving, our first meet is in 3 weeks....

The preliminary schedule can now be found on our website, but it is subject to change, and there certainly will be some additions and subtractions.

For all those who are going to be competing with us (and I hope that is all of you going into grade 9 and above), you will need to complete the registration process on registermyathlete.com - this will include getting a physical. The form you need filled out from the physical can be downloaded and printed off on the website. Registration must be completed before you can compete. Physicals are needed for everyone, as they are only valid for the school year during which they happened.

Here is the schedule for the week (practices begin at 7 AM):

7/19-7/23 update

Braves,

Sorry for the late update. Here is the practice schedule for the week. Right now there is nothing scheduled for Friday, but that could change. This site will be updated if that happens, and it will be announced at practice.

The shirts should be here this week too, but that is tbd. For some reason fedex struggles delivering them during the hours that the school is open.

Don't squander this week, or any of the rest of the weeks and lose the benefits that you gained during the month of June and the past few weeks of July. Now is when you show your mental toughness and stay committed to the cause. Imagine yourself being mentally tough, physically fit, and the best runner you can be; how would that version of yourself treat the next few weeks before the officially season begins?

Practice begins at 7 AM

Week 5 (7/12-16)

 Redhawks,

I hope you have all enjoyed the moratorium and are ready to get back to our regularly scheduled practices. We are about a month away from our first meet (schedule to be released soon), so we have a lot of work to do between now and then. Be sure to keep eating enough, hydrating well, and getting sufficient/regular hours of sleep.

There are several road races in the coming weeks that I have been given promo codes for. If you're interested in one of these events feel free to check them out. They have everything from the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. I don't recommend just jumping into a half marathon or a marathon, because obviously we haven't been training for those events and the jump in mileage creates greater risk of injury, but a 5K or 10K wouldn't be an issue - however be aware that the deseret news races are run on a steep downhill.

On 7/23 there are races in Salt Lake for the days of 47 parade, called the deseret news marathon, but includes all 4 race distances. High school athletes and their families have been given a promo code to use there: use the promo code "DN_HS21" to receive 25% off of the race registration for the 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon. And Family members can use the promo code "Conquer" to receive 10% off of registration.

On 7/24 the handcart days races are here in Bountiful at the rec center. The promo code for $5 off of those events is TRACK5.

Keep in mind that practices begin at 7 AM - please be on time so we do not have to delay and so you don't miss time during the warm up.

On Tuesday/Thursday you should get in a easy or moderate run in for 40-50 minutes (30 for our new/young runners).

MondayJuly 12MPJHAT/LTProgression run - increase every 5 minutes (until tempo pace is found) for 40 minutes
