8/18 update

Braves,

We had an outstanding first meet on Wednesday. Both teams placed in the top 10 in their races – the girls race had 28 teams and the boys race had 42 teams. Our runners ran very smart races and we learned some things about how we can be better for our next race. I was very impressed with how hard each of you raced the final mile. I remember watching Sam Lahn pour it on over the last 400m to try and pass people, after already running so hard up to that point. Moments like that, where you find a little bit more to give after giving what feels like everything already, are very special to witness. We then turned around on Friday at had an awesome workout. This sport is awesome, and it’s made all the better when you walk away each day knowing you did what you could to get better.

Our next meet will be Wednesday at the weber county fairgrounds. The race is called pre-region, because it is run on the same course as the region championships. It is a much smaller meet than Highland, but just as exciting. There will be a bus to the meet, and you will be missing some of your final class period. The exact excuse time will be sent out on Monday.

Some of you reading this may not have been involved in XC with us for a few weeks, or months. If you are one of those people, and you still have some interest in doing it, or rejoining, you are welcome and encouraged to join us. If you know anyone who is interested in it but hasn’t ever done xc with us, definitely invite them to join the team. Even though the season has started it is not too late to join.

This past week we have missed a lot of you at practices. I know many of you have been out of town or at youth conferences, etc. We look forward to having you back with us every day. Now that school will be starting we cannot be missing practices. Missing practices may mean not racing. I don’t anticipate this being much of an issue, but we certainly need to make the commitment now that we will do everything we can to help the team.

Register my athlete needs to be completed before you can race (where have you heard that before?) and some of you have yet to complete it, so please do so asap.

Monday’s practice will be at 2:30. On Tuesday, and thereafter, we will be meeting at 2:40 – please do not be late – with the JH kids starting at 3:15 (each day except Fridays).

If you have any questions please let me know.

Cross Country Season Begins

If you would like to be a part of Bountiful XC this season, please email Coach Jacobson at bjacobson@dsdmail.net

A few things you need to do in order to compete:

In order to be able to compete at the first meet you must complete the registration process at https://www.registermyathlete.com/ the process includes getting a physical. It is my understanding that physicals are good (according to UHSAA) for the school year, not the calendar year, which can be frustrating at times. If I hear that that has changed I will let you know.

One option for getting a physical, if you can’t get in with your family doctor quickly enough, is the firstmed clinic on 1500 S. They allow walk ins, and I was told it is $40 for a physical. You’ll want to bring a hard copy of the physical paperwork (downloaded from the registermyathlete site) which will then need to be uploaded to the site. This can be done by simply taking a picture of the physical and uploading it on the website on your phone.

Please view the meet schedule at the link at the top of this page.

There is a $90 fee for cross country which needs to be paid in the office.
